Woman rescued from burning home
Las Vegas firefighters rescued an invalid woman from a burning home in northwest Las Vegas Saturday night, a fire department spokesman said.
The fire is believed to have been accidental, and probably electrical, according to spokesman Tim Szymanski.
Firefighters responded to a one-story home at 5336 Dana Springs Way after receiving numerous calls about 8 p.m. Saturday. Smoke was coming from the attic, and bystanders told firefighters that the woman who lived in the house could not walk.
A fire in the living room was quickly brought under control, and firefighters found a woman lying lifeless on the kitchen floor, Szymanski said.
While on the way to Mountain View Hospital the woman started to show signs of improvement. She suffered from smoke inhalation and had burns on both legs. The woman, whose name was not given, was later taken to the burn unit of University Medical Center.
The fire did minor damage to the living room, but there was sever smoke damage throughout the house. Damage was estimated at $50,000, Szymanski said.
The woman lives with her husband, who was at work when the fire occurred, he said.
Police investigate fatal shooting in NLV
North Las Vegas Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man about 5 p.m. Friday in a parking lot near Craig and Losee roads.
David Stovall, 23, of Las Vegas went to a home at 4915 Berg St. to drop someone off and a man was waiting, Officer Justin Roberts said.
Police said the man confronted Stovall and they began arguing. The man pulled out a gun and shot Stovall several times in the upper torso and then drove away in a 1990s model blue Ford Taurus station wagon with California plates, Roberts said. The left rear passenger window is broken.
Stovall died at University Medical Center about 6 p.m.
Mario Anthony Martinez is being sought for questioning in connection with the shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or North Las Vegas Police at 633-9111.
