Letter: Bad energy bill wastes money, encourages Yucca

WEEKEND EDITION Dec. 20 - 21, 2003
How in the world could Reps. Jim Gibbons and Jon Porter think that an energy bill that would encourge sending nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain would be OK to support?
So when exactly did Gibbons and Porter give up their public opposition to Yucca Mountain? Why don't they just take the renewable incentives out of the energy bill, put them in a bill of their own, and oppose this bill that just reinforces wasteful spending, an outdated energy policy and subsidies for big polluting businesses. The energy bill they both voted for was an awful bill that had more incentives for members of Congress than it had energy policy.
Thanks to Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., and Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., for opposing this bill. It is so important that Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., do all he can to make sure this bill never passes the Senate.
