A federal appeals court today rejected efforts by the recording industry to compel the nation's Internet providers to turn over names of subscribers suspected of illegally swapping music online.

RealNetworks filed a $1 billion antitrust lawsuit Thursday accusing Microsoft of using its monopoly power to restrict competition and limit consumer choice in digital media markets. Microsoft disputed the charges.
