Letter: Conserve water and slow growth
Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003 | 9:09 a.m.
A reader recently wrote that most Las Vegans would gladly conserve water if that was the price they had to pay for continued growth.
Those of us who have called Las Vegas home for many years and who don't stand to make a buck by the out-of-control growth our civic leaders have allowed over the years would disagree. Yes, let's conserve water, but let's put a stop to the reason we're in this mess in the first place -- uncontrolled growth.
Please tell us what it is the writer finds most appealing about our overcrowded valley: The year-round smog, overburdened schools, gridlocked traffic, increased crime, not enough water, have a casino planted in your back yard, or the "Do whatever you want and leave it in Las Vegas" attitude by our city and county leaders.
Ask all the Las Vegans who understand that Las Vegas is also about family, home and community. I think those who've allowed us to get into our current mess will be surprised by what they hear.
