Two local teens are among 105 students nationwide to receive AP State Scholar Awards based on their outstanding performance on the Advanced Placement Program Examinations.
Sarah A. Buchanan and Alec R. Chapman, both from the Meadows School, Las Vegas, were the two Nevada high school students to receive the award.
The awards are earned by one female and one male student in each state and the the District of Columbia with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP Exams as well as the highest average grade of at least a 3.5 on all AP Exams taken. Every examination receives a grade on a 5-point scale.
The College Board's Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams, according to the Nevada Education Department.
