School’s split will be a boost

It is great to hear good news, such as when you discover that a problem at your alma mater may soon be solved. ("Communications school to be split at UNLV," Dec. 12.)
As a UNLV student interested in journalism, I was so disappointed with the class requirements in the Greenspun School of Communications that I chose another major, and I was the editor of the student newspaper! If journalism students, studying beyond the core curriculum required of all, may focus on learning their chosen profession, this will surely benefit both these students and the people they will eventually serve.
