Two clinical trials planned for colorectal cancer

Researchers at the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada in Las Vegas have begun enrolling volunteers with advanced colorectal cancer in two new clinical trials.

The two final phases will test the cancer-fighting powers of an experimental pill, which is designed to cut off the blood supply that feeds oxygen and nutrients to the tumor.

The experimental drug, PTK/ZK, is paired with what is considered the best chemotherapy combination available for advanced colorectal cancer, providing an opportunity for volunteers to receive the highest standard of care.

PTK/ZK is a member of one of the newest classes of cancer drugs in development, that targets specific molecules in cells. The idea behind targeted therapies is to attack what goes awry in cancer and spare the healthy cells as much as possible, according to Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Nevada.

For more information about the studies, potential volunteers should call the clinical trials hotline at (888) 798-0719.
