Soaring convention attendance boosts LV visitor volume

Visitor volume climbed 3.1 percent in Las Vegas in October, thanks primarily to an increase in convention attendance for the month, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said Thursday.

The LVCVA said 3.1 million people visited the city in October, up from 3 million for the same month a year ago. There were 2,846 conventions and meetings in Las Vegas, up 11.1 percent from the 2,562 held in October 2002. Attendance at those events was 547,700, a 46.2 percent increase over the 374,727 people who attended shows that month the previous year.

The LVCVA also reported room occupancy for conventions was up 39.5 percent and the average daily room rate climbed 9.8 percent to $89.33.

Visitor volume was up 8.7 percent to 149,991 in October in Mesquite and down 1.5 percent to 333,924 in Laughlin for the month.
