Illegal gamblers OK’d to sell

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Two merchant brothers previously convicted of illegal gambling have been approved to sell tickets when Tennessee starts its lottery next year.

A Nashville police sergeant in the vice division said Roger and Raleigh Dean Hunt pleaded guilty to gambling at both of their markets. Sgt. Rob Forrest said one of the stores, H&H Market on Centennial Boulevard, was among the first independent shops granted the right to sell lottery games.

State law prohibits anyone convicted of a gambling charge from operating as a lottery retailer if less than five years have passed since completion of the sentence.

Because the Hunt brothers completed their sentences more than five years ago, they are eligible to sell lottery tickets.
