Letter: Tax burden is spread over year

Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 | 9:52 a.m.

Just a thought:

Say your federal taxes are $6,000 per year. The way our tax system works now, $115.38 is taken from your paycheck each week.

But let's say no income tax was taken from your paycheck. Your taxes would still be $6,000. Would you be willing to sit down on April 14 and write a $6,000 check to the IRS? Remember, $115.38 for 52 weeks equals $6,000.
