Letter: Getting rid of grass effective against drought

Kudos to the Las Vegas City Council for allowing some creative problem-solving to reduce water use. Turning off the fountains is a visible reminder, but if an acre of grass uses 100 times the water of a simple fountain, it sounds like the grass is where the real opportunity lies.

Someone at the Southern Nevada Water Authority needs to calculate how much grass would have to be eliminated to solve the shortage, and then a fair way needs to be found to force the reductions. If it boils down to a choice of grass versus growth in the valley, most people would probably agree to do without some of the grass.
