Health District runs out of vaccine
Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 | 8:50 a.m.
The Clark County Health District ran out of the flu vaccine Tuesday after being inundated with last-minute requests for the shots.
Approximately 1,000 people received the vaccine Monday, apparently prompted by weekend media reports about the severity of this year's flu and the looming shortage of vaccinations. Another 800 more were treated Tuesday until health officials ran out.
Some of the vaccine was set aside, however, for children who need a second dose, Health District spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore said.
"Children who need their second dose can still come in," Sizemore said.
Sizemore said the district is still scrambling to find more doses as local residents continue calling to get themselves immunized. The district has placed signs on the door of its offices informing people of the situation and also provided a phone number, 383-1351, for updates on when more flu shots will be available.
"As soon as we find out how much and when, we'll be letting people know," Sizemore said.
