LVCVA OKs land for parking

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will spend $1.57 million for five parcels totaling 1.15 acres adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall, the organization's board of directors agreed Tuesday.

The LVCVA will use the land, acquired from Ad America Inc., Las Vegas, to develop more than 100 parking spaces and for a storage and marshalling area. The acquisition would help offset the loss of parking slots resulting from the construction of a monorail station at the convention center.

The 100 parking slots would generate revenue for the LVCVA.

The acquisition also will provide traffic access off Sierra Vista Road and the land parcels, which are at 486, 500, 552 and 560 Sierra Vista Road. The land parcels are between the South Hall and several apartment complexes.

The agreement with Ad America would enable the real estate company to have access to cellular telephone towers.

Slot route operator tests sports wagering system

Software maker VirtGame Corp. has struck an agreement with Nevada slot machine route operator United Coin Machine Co. to distribute and market sports betting kiosks.

San Diego-based VirtGame created kiosks that allow gamblers to remotely place sports bets from bars, taverns and other licensed gambling locations including sports books. The system, Sports Bet Express or SBX, also allows the opportunity to bet on a variety of sporting events worldwide.

United Coin expects to distribute and install the system following a formal trial in 25 Southern Nevada casinos. The trial was recently approved by Nevada regulators.

United Coin, owned by slot maker Alliance Gaming Corp., is in the process of being sold to Montana-based slot route operator Century Gaming Inc. It owns one of the state's largest slot routes in supermarkets, bars and other non-casino venues.
