Vernon Abernathy

Vernon Abernathy, 57, of North Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1946, in Detroit. A resident for 13 years, he was a retired case manager for Catholic Charities and a Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Billye; one stepdaughter, Yvette West, and one stepson, Ronald Brock, both of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Main. Graveside services will be 1:20 p.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Marguerite J. Bailey

Marguerite J. Bailey, 86, of Boulder City died Saturday in a local health care center. She was born Sept. 14, 1917, in San Francisco. A resident for 47 years, she was a supervisor at the Nevada Test Site and a member of the Women's Republican Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Baker of Henderson.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Ivory Harrell Blue

Ivory Harrell Blue, 56, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 25, 1947, in Edwards, Miss. A resident for 32 years, he was a plans checker for 24 years at Clark County Public Works and was a decorated Army and Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his birth mother, Millie T. Palmer of Edwards; six brothers, Square Palmer Jr. of Bolton, Miss., Horice Palmer and Abbie K. Johnson, both of Edwards, John E. Palmer of Vicksburg, Miss., and Joe Palmer and P.J. Palmer, both of Elkhart, Ind.; three sisters, Betty Ann Ramsey of Chicago, Mary L. Palmer of Edwards and Millie P. White of Longview, Texas; four children, Hope Fletcher-Porter, Marian Y. Blue-Howard, Ivory H. Blue II and Katrina Blue, all of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Benjamin H. Boone

Benjamin H. Boone, 59, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. He was born June 5, 1944, in Rocky Mount, N.C. A resident for 19 years, he was a retired Air Force senior master sergeant and Vietnam War Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Montho; two daughters, Sroy Boone and Benjamath Rawling, and one son, Klaithong Boone, all of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until a 2 p.m. service Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Tonya G. Byrd

Tonya G. Byrd, 44, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. She was born Aug. 27, 1959, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, she was an underground utility contractor.

She is survived by her husband, Buddy Lee; two sons, Buddy Tyler Byrd and Austin John Byrd, both of Henderson; her mother and stepfather, Donna and Luke Wills, and one brother, Mike Wills, all of Las Vegas; and one sister, Michelle Overton of Henderson.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. today with a 5 p.m. service in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson.

Edna M. Childress

Edna M. Childress, 92, of North Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. She was born June 3, 1911, in Texas. A resident for two years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie Tate of North Las Vegas; one sister, Agartha Irving of Texas; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Garden Memorial Funeral Home, 3600 W. Vegas Drive.

Kenneth Cooke

Kenneth Cooke, 84, of Henderson died Saturday in a local health care center. He was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Birkenhead, England. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired manager in the space industry, a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Kara Cooke of San Francisco; and one grandchild.

Visitation was scheduled noon-5 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will 10 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Henderson. Graveside services will follow at noon Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Peter Daniel Ellis Jr.

Peter Daniel Ellis Jr., 14, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. A resident for seven years, he was born Dec. 31, 1988, in Phoenix.

He is survived by his father, Pete Ellis of Las Vegas; his mother, Lisa Armijo of Phoenix; two brothers, Kole Thompson of Phoenix and Robert Ellis of Las Vegas; two sisters, Jennifer Ellis of Las Vegas and Klancey Thompson of Phoenix.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Thursday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Anthony Ely

Anthony Ely, 17, of Henderson died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 20, 1986, in Eugene, Ore. A resident for 12 years, he was a laborer at a restaurant.

He is survived by his parents, John and Michelle Ely of Henderson; three sisters, Jennifer Harhay of Las Vegas and Amanda Ely and Kencie Ely, both of Henderson; and his grandmother, Betty Julian of Eugene.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2 S. Pecos Road, Henderson. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Earl Floyd

Earl Floyd, 74, of Henderson died Saturday. He was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Glenwood, Ark. A resident for 51 years, he was a retired owner-operator of an air conditioning company, a Korean War Air Force veteran, a member of the Shriners, Rotary Club and Henderson Planning Commission, past president of the Boys & Girls Club and a contributor and volunteer of many charitable organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma; three daughters, Janet Mull, Patricia Charlton and Judy Caldwell; two sons, Rusty Floyd and Graham Johnson; one brother, William Floyd; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Henderson. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Brianna Renee Lucas

Brianna Renee Lucas, 12, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born April 7, 1991.

She is survived by her mother, Roberta Gilbuena Lucas Aday; two brothers, Jimmie Aday III and Patrick Shealy III; and her grandmother, Diana Diehl.

Services will be 1-3 p.m. Thursday in Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St.

Gaylord G. McCartney

Gaylord G. McCartney, 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local health care center. He was born Feb. 11, 1930, in Eagle, Neb. A resident for 19 years, he was a retired heating and air-conditioning technician and a Korean War and Vietnam War Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia; two sons, Patrick McCartney and Jerry McCartney, both of Las Vegas; one daughter, Sharon Sylvester of Corona, Calif.; three brothers, Mike McCartney of Ten Strikes, Minn., Sidney McCartney of Lincoln, Neb., and Max McCartney of Green Valley, Ariz.; two sisters, Joyce Wilkinson of Aurora, Colo., and Gwen Johnson of Carmichael, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Graveside services will be 11:20 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

James R. Michael

James R. Michael, 66, of Las Vegas died Nov. 25 in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Brookings, S.D. A resident for 1 1/2 years, he was a retired Navy veteran who served in the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by one daughter, Megan M. Michael; one sister, Janet Nitz; and one brother, William Michael.

Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling private arrangements.

Beatrice Powers

Beatrice Powers, 91, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 6, 1912, in Oil City, Pa. A resident for 30 years, she was a retired accountant, a world traveler, multi-lingual and an avid organist.

She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Paine of Kansas City, Mo., and Shirley Copper of Benton, La.; and three grandchildren.

Burial will be in Palm Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

O.E. 'Pete' Rink

O.E. "Pete" Rink, 80, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born June 13, 1923, in Kansas. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired construction superintendant, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Longmont American Legion Post 32.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two sons, Dennis Rink of Fort Collins, Colo., and Elden Rink of Roy, Utah; three daughters, Donna Stich of Oak Creek, Colo., and Sheri Penland of Longmont, Colo., and Lori Jackson of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Jones. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd.

Kimio Sato

Kimio Sato, 80, of Las Vegas died Dec. 2 in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Maui, Hawaii. A resident for eight years, he was a retired machinist in the aerospace industry and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; one brother, Tom Sato of Huntsville, Ala.; and one sister, Mildred Wakakuwa of Maui.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Dec. 20 in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

David Glenn Scafidi

David Glenn Scafidi, 46, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. An automotive repairman, he was born April 29, 1957, in Bay St. Louis, Miss.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; one son, David II of Las Vegas; two brothers, Dominick Scafidi Jr. of Las Vegas and Dale Scafidi of Bay St. Louis; and one sister, Janet Everett of Bay St. Louis.

Services were scheduled at 12:30 p.m. today in Harrison-Ross Mortuaries, 2071 Las Vegas Blvd. North, followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

John A. Stemphlet

John A. Stemphlet, 83, of Boulder City died Friday in a local care center. He was born Jan. 22, 1920, in New York City. A resident for 52 years, he was a chef in Las Vegas for 50 years, a World War II Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theater and was a Purple Heart recipient and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth; and two daughters, Michelle Baker and Aimee Stemphlet, both of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Boulder City Family Mortuary, 833 Nevada Way, Suite 1, Boulder City, is handling arrangements.

Walter Neil Wray Jr.

Walter Neil Wray Jr., 79, of Pahrump died Saturday in Pahrump. He was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Ada, Okla. A resident for 10 years, he was an auto salesman and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by one son, Clifford Wray of Richmond, Texas.
