Letter: Keep separate church and state

Every person in the country wishing to be elected, re-elected or appointed to a federal, state, city, county or school district public office or administrative position should incorporate the following statement in his or her campaign: "Among the citizens of this (country, state or whatever) there live Christians, Muslims, Mormons, Buddhists, Hindus, atheists and others. I am a member of one of these groups. I agree with the wisdom of our founding fathers and will serve all members of these groups equally."

That being said, I would urge those currently serving as elected officials to consider removing the Bible from our courtrooms and changing the swearing-in oath to: "I swear, subject to a prison term, a monetary fine, or both, to tell the truth, etc."

Also, I think our country should be a leader in keeping religion out of the schoolroom. This will help keep us indivisible.
