Family, music programs highlight Cox lineup change
Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 | 8:21 a.m.
Cox Communications has juggled its channel lineup to add more family and music programming.
The eight new channels -- including five from the MTV network -- were added to its analog and digital cable lineups on Monday.
MTV2, an all-music channel, joins the analog cable lineup on channel 38. All other additions have been made to the digital lineup.
"Southern Nevadans want their MTV and we're glad to finally be able to expand our MTV and VH1 offerings, as well as expand our family programming through the addition of Nicktoons and Noggin," said Steve Schorr, vice president of public and government affairs for Cox Communications in a prepared statement.
The following channels have been changed on the analog cable lineup:
The Learning Channel, previously on channel 38, moves to channel 33.
VH1 moves from channel 33 to channel 39 (and also remains on channel 1).
Las Vegas ONE moves from channel 39 to channel 19.
MTV moves from channel 19 to channel 37.
ABC Family moves from channel 37 to channel 74.
Digital channel additions include Nicktoons, a 24-hour cartoon network (channel 356); Nick GAS, a sports network for kids (channel 357); MTV Hits, featuring pop hits (channel 358); VH1 Classic, showing the best of the '60s, '70s and '80s (channel 359); VH1 Mega Hits, featuring the hits of the '90s and today (Channel 360); and VH1 Country, featuring country artists who have crossed over into popular music (channel 361).
Noggin, which features commercial-free, educational programming for preschoolers, debuts on channel 109 on Wednesday, Dec. 31. However, Cox is currently offering its digital customers Noggin as a free preview.
A complete list of changes will be reflected in the Las Vegas Sun's daily television listings by the end of the week.
