Dangers of DUI are driven home
The annual "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at University Medical Center, 1800 W. Charleston Blvd., to increase awareness of the effects of driving while under the influence, whether it is alcohol or drugs.
A variety of events will be held to demonstrate the effects of impaired driving. These include relay races with participants wearing "fatal vision" goggles, a drinking demonstration monitored by Metro Police and an extrication demonstration by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Mortuary to unveil special angel statue
Palm Mortuary will unveil its Angel for Lost Children statue during the sixth annual Tree of Memory service at 4 p.m. Saturday at Palm Cemetery, 6701 N. Jones Blvd.
The statue will remain a permanent feature of the children's section at Palm's Jones location.
For anyone who has lost a child, the Angel provides a sense of hope and peace, Palm officials said.

Candle-lighting ceremony set Tuesday
The Light Up a Life memorial candle-lighting ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Center for Compassionate Care, 4131 Swenson St., and also at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive, to celebrate the memory of friends and family members during the holiday season.
The nondenominational event will feature inspirational music from local vocalists and choirs, memory name reading, the lighting of candles and refreshments.
Santa to light up Liberace Museum
Christmas at the Liberace Museum will begin with a holiday lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Liberace Center, 1775 E. Tropicana Ave.
Santa Claus, who will pull the switch that lights the lights, will appear in typical Liberace fashion, wearing a gold outfit. Local choirs and musicians, as well as Liberace Scholars, will perform holiday music before and after the ceremony.
Also the museum will feature special holiday exhibits including rare music boxes that play Christmas carols as well as a sterling silver reindeer and sleigh centerpiece. The cafe will serve up snacks, drinks and deserts.
The lighting ceremony is free to the public and two-for-one coupons for adult admission to the museum will be available. Children 5 and under are admitted free.

Ride with Santa on Boulder City line
The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City will offer free train rides with Mr. and Mrs. Claus along the historic Boulder Branch Railroad line, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
The railroad, 600 Yucca St., is just north of Boulder Highway.
Santa Train rides are free and will last approximately 20 minutes. Seating for the event is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Members of the Las Vegas Rotary Club
and University of Nevada, Las Vegas sports teams in partnership with JC Penney at the Boulevard and Meadows malls will each partner with one of over 140 children to go shopping for clothing and other needed items beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday at JC Penney. Call 385-3677.
