Columnist Peter Benton: OB Sports Management takes over two courses

Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003 | 9:55 a.m.

Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.

OB Sports Management has returned to the Las Vegas Golf Market where it has taken over the management of both the Legacy and Angel Park golf clubs.

This renowned company had a successful history with these two clubs in the late '80s (when Orin Vincent was at the helm). Before the club changed hands in 2000, the company had a reputation -- and deservedly so -- for presenting outstanding golf course conditions and superior customer service standards.

With new owners recently acquiring both properties, OB Sports was rehired and is now back as the management team with a promise to enhance both courses and make them better than ever. (OB Sports also manages the relatively new Tuscany and the brand new Aliante golf clubs here in town.)

David Bougue has been hired as general manager of the Angel Park Golf Club, where his responsibilities will include all golf operations, marketing, merchandising, tournament play, budgeting and staff training at the complex.

Before joining the Angel Park team, Bougue was the general manager for the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz., with similar responsibilities. Under his direction, Ocotillo received numerous industry awards, including Golf World Business' America's 100 Best Golf Shops and the PGA's Merchandiser of the Year Award.

According to their president, Phil Green, OB Sports guarantees to elevate Angel Park back to its rightful position within the Las Vegas golf market. With Bougue's extensive and successful record of accomplishment, it most certainly augers well for not only the club's future but also for area golfers.

Angel Park Golf Club is a 36-hole facility located in the Summerlin area of Vegas, where both the Mountain and Palm courses were designed by Arnold Palmer. The club also has the Cloud Nine, a 12-hole par-3 layout, the challenging Seventh Heaven, a natural grass putting course, along with an expansive practice area, all of which are lighted for evening enjoyment.

Another addition to the OB Sports team is Kris Strauss who has been appointed Director of Sales and Marketing. His responsibilities will include group sales, public relations, brand development, promotional activities and advertising.

Strauss also brings with him experience galore, and, as with Bougue, brings unparalleled leadership and marketing expertise to their respective endeavors.

A native of Hawaii, Strauss comes to us via the Scottsdale based Troon Golf Management Co., and prior to that, the Waikoloa Beach Resort in Hawaii.
