Women honored for bus shelter
Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 | 8:58 a.m.
Two women who lobbied Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman for a bus shelter for mentally ill patients outside a local treatment center were to be honored today with the Mayor's Commendation Award.
The morning ceremony was scheduled to take place at the Mojave Counseling Center, 400 E. Charleston Blvd., a part of the University of Nevada School of Medicine. The center assists 2,500 mentally ill people with comprehensive treatment plans, daily living, financial planning, job training and access to health care.
In September, Caitlin Morris and Kim Anderson sent a letter to Goodman asking for his assistance with the shelter. The mayor worked with city officials for the permits and Viacom Outdoor for donated materials.
