Holiday closings

Labor Day has its origins in the Knights of Labor Parade that dates back to the 1840s in September in New York City. In 1894, Congress declared the first Monday in September as the legal holiday. Canada also observes the holiday in honor of all wage earners. Here's what's open and closed on Monday:
SAFETY: Police and fire emergency services will be operating as usual though administrative offices will be closed.
GARBAGE: Republic Services of Southern Nevada pickups as usual.
UTILITIES: Closed: Sprint, Southwest Gas, Nevada Power, Las Vegas Valley Water District, Cox Communications cable television.
GOVERNMENT: Closed: Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, North Las Vegas, Clark County, state, courts, federal offices, federal courthouse.
SCHOOLS: Closed, no classes: Clark County School District public schools, Community College of Southern Nevada, University of Nevada Las Vegas.
MAIL: Closed, no deliveries by the U.S. Postal Service, United Parcel Service.
NEWSPAPER: Las Vegas Sun published jointly with Review-Journal and delivered in the morning. Sun offices closed.
TRANSIT: Downtown Transportation Center: Open. City Trolleys: Holiday schedule (one less vehicle in operation). Citizen Area Transit: Buses on holiday/weekend schedule (fewer buses on fixed routes).
LIBRARIES: Closed: Las Vegas-Clark County District, Henderson District, North Las Vegas District, Boulder City District.
MATRIMONY: Marriage License Bureau open 24 hours, starting 8 a.m. Friday, closing midnight Monday.
FINANCIAL: Closed: Most banks, brokerage firms. (Note: Banks may open as long as all transactions are posted on Tuesday, the next regular business day. Check your local branch for its holiday schedule.)
PARKING: Free parking in metered spaces.
