Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.
One of the better golf deals being offered is the OB Sports Golf Card. This money-saving frequent player card is valid at the Angel Park, Legacy and Tuscany Golf Clubs here in town, plus the Oasis Golf Club in Mesquite.
From Aug. 1-31 the cost per person is $199, with that figure rising to $250 for Sept. 1, 2003, through to Dec. 31, 2004.
Card holders receive preferred green fees (savings of 50 percent and more) guest privileges and benefits such as:
Registering for the OB Sports Golf Card is available at any of the above mentioned golf courses, with further information being available by calling (702) 254-4653.
This event, played over the Ruby View Golf Course in Elko, saw the Northern team of Sheila Abplanalp, Debbie Giebel, Bonnie Parker and Patricia Settje, representing the Spring Creek club, garner overall low net with a score of 224.
Playing superbly, Laverty made the field, and despite most unfamiliar putting woes in the first round of the tournament proper, acquitted himself with distinction, shooting rounds of 74-73-67--214 over the 6,879-yard, par-71 layout.
With this success, Laverty plans on following the Champions Tour with hopes of qualifying for further events.
Young Danny Boy had to leave town to do it though, as his unforgettable ace was recorded at the Marriott's Palm Golf Course in Palm Desert, Calif., and came via a perfectly-struck 7-iron on the 165-yard, par-3, 17th hole.
Low gross victors for the season was the Badlands team which eked out a narrow victory against the representatives from Boulder City, while the Black Mountain women won low net over the ladies from Los Prados.
