Letter: Gibbons made it more difficult to improve schools
Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 | 9:56 a.m.
There are more than 350,000 students in Nevada.
Per-pupil funding is $2,000 behind the national average, according to the National Education Association.
Let's calculate: $2,000 multiplied by 350,000 equals $700 million. This means that increased funding to the tune of $1.4 billion for the biennium would be required to implement what Rep. Gibbons supposedly supports. Gibbons created a constitutional requirement that would make it all but impossible to fund an education spending increase that he says he supports.
