Threat of thunderstorms fades

A flood watch for the Las Vegas Valley was canceled by 9 p.m. Thursday as the threat of thunderstorms faded, National Weather Service forecasters said.
While northwest Las Vegas residents continued to mop up after the devastating thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon, the weather started to dry out and will start warming up over the weekend, weather service forecaster Larry Jensen said.
Today the high should reach about 99 degrees, after hitting 97 Thursday. Southern Nevada should see 100-degree readings over the weekend.
Normal high temperatures at this time of year are in the low 100s, Jensen said.
There is still a chance of a thunderstorm this evening, but drier air moved rapidly into the Las Vegas Valley from a low pressure system pushing east from the Pacific Ocean, Jensen said.
A brief thunderstorm about noon Thursday left a fraction of an inch of rainfall in Henderson.
There was no rain measured Thursday at McCarran International Airport, where official rainfall totals are measured.
