Warrant issued in suitcase killing

Metro Police obtained an arrest warrant Thursday charging a 33-year-old Phoenix man with the dismemberment murder of a man found inside a suitcase April 25 in the 8100 block of West Flamingo Road.

Scott Raymond Dozier is in custody in Arizona for murder and drug-related charges in that state, Lt. Tom Monahan said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was found by an apartment complex maintenance worker inside a suitcase in a garbage bin.

Jean escapee captured by Metro

An escapee from a prison camp in Jean was captured by Metro Police on Wednesday, authorities said.

Erica Valenzuela, 25, had "walked away" from the Jean Conservation Camp on Aug. 12, Howard Skolnick, spokesman for the state Department of Corrections, said. Her escape was the second from the minimum security camp in two weeks.

Valenzuela "won't be placed in minimum security this time," Skolnick said. He said he didn't know the circumstances of her capture, but in addition to her new charge for escape, she is facing charges of possession of another person's credit card and forgery.

She had been serving a one- to four-year sentence for theft, burglary, forgery and possession of a controlled substance, but her new charges are "going to add significant time to what was really a pretty short sentence," Skolnick predicted.

Woman found dead in car ID'd

A woman found shot to death early Thursday morning in a car in a Henderson apartment complex has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Stephanie Ray Roy, 50, of Henderson.

A security guard found the woman in a white Honda CRV, with its engine running, about 1 a.m. and called police. Henderson Police are investigating. No arrests have been made.

It was Henderson's fifth homicide this year.

Victim slain in her home identified

The coroner's office released the name of the woman who Henderson Police believe was slain by her husband in their home Monday night.

The victim has been identified as Laurel M. Allen, 38. She died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries, the coroner's office said.

Her husband, Robert Eugene Allen, 57, was arrested and charged with her killing.

Police warn of school zone limits

The first days of school are normally accompanied by increased vehicle and foot traffic and, with the start of the new school year next week, police are urging motorists to drive safely in school zones.

A new state law regarding crosswalks attended by crossing guards will also be in effect, Officer Shane Lewis, spokesman for the Henderson Police Department, said. Traffic stopped at a crosswalk with a crossing guard must remain stopped until all pedestrians have completely crossed the streets.

North Las Vegas Police will be devoting "all available personnel and resources" toward monitoring school zones, as well as drop-off and pick-up points to ensure safe driving and enforce traffic laws, Officer Justin Roberts, spokesman for North Las Vegas Police, said.
