NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

The fishing for striped bass has been good and is showing signs of getting even better, while the action for largemouth bass has been somewhat slow, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).

Boaters have been enjoying good top water action for stripers throughout the Boulder Basin, with the fish running from one to two pounds. One boater said he has been catching stripers that are around three pounds by fishing deep with anchovies.

Some of the areas where anglers have caught fish in recent days are Black Island, the 33 Hole, Burro Point and the north side Saddle Island.

Shore fishing has been fair for stripers in the early morning hours at Hemenway Harbor and the 33 Hole. The fish have been moving to deep water by mid morning and the fishing then becomes unproductive.

The fishing has generally been slow at Willow Beach, although there were reports of small stripers being taken in coves near the marina.

Dacey, which has only bass, produced fair fishing for experienced bass anglers including several fish that were around 14 inches in length. Cold Spring and Haymeadow also had fair bass fishing along with good action for trout that range from 11 to 15 inches.

Afternoon winds and thunderstorms have been a problem for anglers at the area.
