Tourists on Strip unfazed by storm

Evidence on the Strip of Tuesday's rain came in the form of closed outdoor seating areas and scattered puddles on the sidewalk, but most tourists said the wet weather hasn't put a damper on their vacation.

Rain on the Strip was light compared with the storms that hit the city's northwest neighborhoods.

Diane Johnson, from Indiana, said the rain hasn't changed her vacation plans. She was indoors for most of the heavy rain but even the light rain didn't keep her inside.

"I'm having fun," she said. "Lots and Lots of fun."

This was her second visit to Las Vegas and she said she looks forward to coming back next year.

Others found the rain to be a mere annoyance.

"As long as it is sunny tomorrow," said Dede Jhurani, on vacation from New York.

She added that the rain made her stay indoors a bit more -- but it gives people one more reason to gamble.

Business owner Ilija Stosic said he didn't see any of the heavy rain and was surprised to hear about the flooding in the northwest.

He said traffic in front of his business, Island Tribal Temporary Tattoos, was a little slow following the rain.

"As soon as weather hits it affects business for an hour or so," he said.

He added that after living in Hawaii and seeing eight inches of rain and 20-foot surf, weather like this didn't faze him.

"People come here from all over, with all types of weather," he said. "But they freak out when it rains here."

Water was flowing through the bottom floor of the Imperial Palace parking garage under signs that read "flash flood area, park at your own risk."

No damage was reported there.

Janice James was visiting from London and said the rain didn't ruin any plans she had, although she said she didn't expect the rain.

"We see enough of that at home," she said while waiting for the Mirage volcano show to start.
