A Las Vegas National Guardsman was injured Tuesday night when the Humvee he was driving struck a land mine in northeastern Baghdad.
Sgt. Jeremy McLoughlin of the 72nd Military Police based in Henderson was part of a convoy that was heading back to its base of operations, a prison, in northeast Baghdad. A lieutenant from a different unit was also in the Humvee and sustained minor injuries.
McLoughlin suffered more extensive wounds and is expected to be hospitalized for the next couple of days, military officials said.
The unit commander said that when others in the convoy saw what was left of the vehicle they were sure there was going to be dead bodies.
The 72nd is in Baghdad guarding prisoners of war.
