Book reading
New York Times best-selling author J.A. Jance will read from her latest novel, "Exit Wounds," at 7 p.m. Thursday at Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Admission is free. 734-7323.
Poetry reading
The public is invited to Poets' Corner, an evening of poetry readings from established poets and open mike participants, at 7:30 p.m. today at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Admission is free. 229-4800.
Free movie
The Clark County Parks and Community Services Department presents a free movie at 8:30 p.m. today at Mountain Crest Park, near the intersection of Loen Mountain and Durango Road. Bring picnic baskets, blankets and short lawn chairs, but no pets or alcohol please. 455-8278.

Sculpture contest
Entries are being accepted for a sculpture contest held by the Pulidor Foundation/Spirit of the Nations, in preparation for its second annual Native American Arts & International Film Festival from Nov. 14-16.
