S. Nevada brothel eyes casino deal

A publicly traded Australian company has established a "handshake agreement" with a Nye County brothel owner to build a casino and strip club at a site north of Pahrump in Southern Nevada.

Joe Richards, who operates the Cherry Patch and Mabel's Ranch in the 100-person town of Crystal, said today that he has an agreement with Daily Planet Ltd., Melbourne, to build the casino and topless dancing club at the site of the two brothels.

Richards would not disclose any additional details about the plan.

In May, Daily Planet, believed to be the only publicly traded company that operates brothels, announced plans to enter the Nevada market.

In that announcement, Andrew Harris, chief executive officer of Daily Planet, said he hoped eventually to build a 50-room brothel, hotel, nightclub, strip club, pool and airstrip in Nevada, and hired former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss as a paid consultant and spokeswoman.

The two brothels are just west of State Route 160, south of U.S. 95, about 75 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
