Sandy Rush, assistant vice president of nursing administration at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, was chosen as the leadership award winner during the annual awards ceremony by the Nurse Week magazine.
The awards event recognize nurses and their contributions to health care.
Rush's award for leadership was inspired by her success in persuading the Nevada Legislature to pass Assembly Bill 53, which makes it a felony to assault a health care provider. The new law goes into effect Oct. 1.
Rush also spearheaded St. Rose's Critical Incident Stress Management program. The program provides emotional support for employees involved in a traumatic event.
