Nevada ads target California companies

The Nevada Development Authority has launched an aggressive ad campaign in California, telling readers of the ad tagline, "You're out of business."

Through a partnership with the state's Commission on Economic Development, the NDA is spending $600,000 on a sustained media campaign running this week through June 21, 2004. The quarter-page ads are running in the business sections of the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Diego Union Tribune and several business journals, the San Francisco Business Times, the San Diego Business Journal, the Silicon Valley-San Jose Business Journal, the Los Angeles Business Journal and the Orange County Business Journal.

The ad campaign cites California's high workers' compensation and utility costs and a state Family Leave Act that requires California businesses to allow paid time off for employees.

"This is the most aggressive campaign we've launched to date," said Somer Hollingsworth, president and chief executive officer of the NDA. "The ads are meant to attract attention. We want to call California businesses to action."
