Benefits-planning workshop scheduled
The Southern Nevada Center for Independent Living will host a benefits-planning workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Community College of Southern Nevada, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd.
The informative workshop is designed to help recipients of Supplemental Security Income and/or Social Security Disability Income learn about available resources for re-entering the work force.
Workshop attendees will learn about work transition programs, how returning to work will affect their benefits and ways to protect their benefits and achieve self-sufficiency.
The event is free and open to the public.

Program planned for home buyers
Henderson District Public Libraries and Henderson Neighborhood Services will be offering a program for first time home buyers at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Paseo Verde Library Conference Room, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway.
The program is designed to assist residents of Henderson with the purchase of their first home. The workshop will show patrons how to take advantage of the First Time Homebuyers Education Program.
Applicants must reside or be employed within Henderson city limits for at least one year and make a minimum investment of $750 with less than $10,000 in assets.

Amateurs meet pros in shoot-out
The Las Vegas Founders Shoot-Out 2003, a benefit golf tournament pairing local amateurs with pros, will be held Monday at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
The tournament, benefitting the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, will give pros an opportunity to compete for two open spots in the Las Vegas Invitational in October.
Entry in the tournament includes an invitation to the draw party 7 p.m. Sunday at the JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd. Call 242-3005.
A free slide presentation about desert tortoise
adoption and care will be given by the Tortoise Group from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society in Lorenzi Park. Call 739-8043.
