CPR classes planned in Spanish
The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada will offer a CPR and first aid class in Spanish this month.
The class, which will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 29 at 3672 N. Rancho Drive, is a response to the Las Vegas Valley's changing population, said Diana Guy, community education specialist. The valley now includes an estimated 368,000 Hispanics. Two classes have been offered in Spanish in the last year, she said.
The initial class will have room for 15 students and Spanish classes will be offered twice monthly thereafter.
In fiscal year 2002-2003, 12,000 local residents took classes in English, which teach people "anything from helping with a cut to helping someone who unconscious and not breathing," Guy said.
The annual diocesan pro-life potluck
will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 1840 N. Bruce St., North Las Vegas. For more information, call Greg at 363-4299 or Kathleen at 262-9433.
