House fire spreads next door

Police say children playing with matches caused a two-alarm fire Friday that started in one house and extended to the house next door.

Firefighters responded to the first house that caught fire at 907 N. Bedford Road, near Charleston and Decatur boulevards about 8:35 p.m. A second alarm was dispatched and brought a total of 20 units, with 50 firefighters on the scene when the fire spread next door.

Firefighters had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes.

The first house suffered $35,000 in damage, and the second $5,000.

There were no injuries and the American Red Cross is assisting a total of nine people with temporary housing.

Woman found dead in motel

A housekeeper at the Town Lodge Motel in the 200 block of North Seventh Street discovered the body of a woman Friday afternoon.

Police arrived on the scene about 2:30 p.m.

The woman has not been identified as of this morning. The cause of death has not been determined, but police say the woman may be a victim of a homicide.

Man found shot in parked car

Police discovered the body of a man in a parked car Friday night in the 4600 block of Spencer Street, near Eastern and Tropicana avenues.

Residents walking in the neighborhood found John Aime, 20, of Las Vegas about 6:40 p.m. and called police.

Police say and apparently died of a gunshot wound. The cause of death will be officially determined after an autopsy is completed.

Arrest made in death of man, 19

Christopher Nay, 20, of Las Vegas was arrested Friday in the death of a 19-year-old man, whose body was found at the base of the west face of Lone Mountain.

Hikers discovered Elijah Ansah on July 27. The cause of death was determined as blunt trauma.

Ansah had a large tattoo of a cross with a banner wrapped around it on the inside of his right forearm, information police released to help identify him.

Nay was arrested at his home on the 3300 block of Tenaya Way near Atwood Drive and was taken to the Clark County Detention Center.

Inmate missing from honor camp

State prison officials say a 31-year-old inmate from Clark County who escaped early Sunday from the honor camp near Carlin was still at large this morning.

Daniel Campbell, sentenced to one to 2.5 years for possession of a forged check, was received at the prison in April.

Campbell and another inmate, Michael Sheline, were discovered missing during a regular count at 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Sheline walked back into camp about 15 minutes after a search started.

Campbell is described as white, 6 feet tall, with blond hair and blue eyes and weighing 190 pounds.
