Three pedestrians hit in NLV incident
A woman and two children were hit by a car about 8:30 p.m. Sunday as they jaywalked across Civic Center Drive near Cheyenne Avenue, North Las Vegas Police said.
Maria Diaz, 37, a 10-month-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, Susanna Corales, exited a Citizens Area Transit bus and started crossing the street outside a crosswalk, police said. Diaz was carrying the baby and Corales was pushing a stroller filled with items bought at a store.
While one car stopped to let the three cross the street, a green Dodge Neon driven by Michael Lance Kostner, 34, of Phoenix struck them, police said.
The impact forced the baby out of Diaz's arms, police said.
The baby was in very critical condition with head injuries late Sunday night at University Medical Center, a spokeswoman said.
Diaz and Corales were both listed in good condition this morning. Kostner was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.
Inmate walks away from crew
An inmate at the Southern Nevada Correctional Center's work crew at Jean walked away at 6:45 a.m. today, Nevada Corrections Department officials said.
Steven Barlow, 45, was serving a two- to five-year sentence he started in March on a charge of driving under the influence. Barlow has gray hair, blue eyes, stands 5-foot-11 and is 190 pounds. He has tattoos of a Harley-Davidson emblem and a rose, prison officials said.
Anyone with information about Barlow is asked to call 486-6491.
