Horrocks’ wife indicted in election case
Monday, April 28, 2003 | 10:40 a.m.
The wife of a local bar owner was indicted Friday on charges that she helped her husband file fraudulent votes in the Assembly District 37 election.
The indictment charges Pamela Jean Horrocks with eight criminal counts, including violation of the law governing elections, conspiracy and forgery.
The indictment alleges Pamela Horrocks and her husband, Gary Horrocks, 49, filed fraudulent documents when they cast absentee ballots for Assemblyman Marcus Conklin, D-Las Vegas.
According to the indictment, unsealed before District Judge Valerie Adair, Pamela Horrocks signed absentee ballots falsely stating that she was a family member of voters before delivering the ballots to the County Clerk's office.
Gary Horrocks is the owner of the Clubhouse Tavern, 4001 Las Vegas Blvd. North, and he also was an unsuccessful Republican candidate in the district. Conklin denies playing any role in the alleged scheme.
The couple is expected to be arraigned May 7 before District Judge Joseph Bonaventure.
Pamela Horrocks' attorney, Michael Cristalli, could not be reached for comment this morning.
Chief Deputy District Attorneys James Sweetin and Christopher Laurent say the charges reflect documents filed with the election department with fraudulent addresses for at least 10 voters.
At least two of those 10 individuals never voted, but voting documents are filed in their name, they said.
Friday's indictment came three weeks after Gary Horrocks was indicted on 62 criminal counts, which include multiple charges of violation of the law governing elections, fraud, conspiracy and burglary.
Though the first indictment named Pamela Horrocks as a co-conspirator, she was not initially charged because investigators had not finished analyzing handwriting samples at that time, Laurent said.
The second indictment also charges Gary Horrocks with two additional forgery counts, Laurent said.
