Park Place Entertainment Corp. and Sierra Health and Life Insurance Co. Inc. have signed a contract to offer a new health program for casino employees called "LifeStrides."
The program will provide about 19,000 Park Place employees in four states free access to wellness classes, individual health assessments, disease prevention information and other efforts.
"This marks the first effort by a gaming company to offer a free wellness/health education program to improve the health of its employees," Park Place said.
It will consist of on-site wellness centers staffed by health educators and administrative staff who will focus on improving and maintaining health as well as helping people with diabetes, heart disease, stress, weight control, smoking addiction, asthma, high cholesterol and arthritis, among other conditions.
"These are hard working employees in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment," said Jennifer Martinsen, director of the Sierra Health division. "Bringing health education to them may help prevent disease or manage an existing disease."
