If you're among the many people who enjoy shooting sports such as archery, cowboy action shooting, rifles and pistols, trap, skeet and sporting clays, your input is being sought regarding the approximately 2,880 acres of land that has been designated for a public shooting range.
The county aims for the Sport Shooting Park to become the largest world-class shooting park in the nation.
To accomplish this, it will take involvement and interest from individuals and organizations that enjoy shooting firearms and/or archery.
The Citizen Advisory Committee is offering an opportunity for shooting sport enthusiasts to get on target by becoming involved in the planning stages by simply filling out a "Needs Profile" survey form on what facilities and services they might envision at the park.
The advisory committee will compile all of the information obtained from the surveys, discuss the options and make their final recommendations to the county for the design, financing, development and operation of the facility.
Clark County may implement the master plan for the Sport Shooting Park after the park's advisory committee submits its recommendations. The cost for this project could reach $20 million, to be funded through a public-private partnership.
You can request a survey form, or receive additional information about the shooting park by contacting Clark County Parks and Community Services at 455-8293.
Targeted plans in developing the largest world-class public shooting park include a location for education, competitive events (including facilities for Olympic style shooting), local law enforcement firearm training, hunter and gun safety courses, and a range for shooting sports.
By filling out this survey, you'll be among those individuals involved during the early stages of a positive future being implemented for expanding shooting sport opportunities for shooters of today and future generations.
