Las Vegas Wash gets environment honor

The Las Vegas Wash Wetlands Park was one of three Nevada environmental projects that received awards Tuesday in San Francisco for Earth Day.

Clark County Parks and Community Services was honored for its efforts to protect a 2,900-acre wetlands.

The wetlands park's focal point, a 130-acre nature preserve, includes trails, ponds and a bird viewing blind.

Isao Kobashi of Reno was also honored for his efforts in helping pass the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990, and Nevada gold mine operators Newmont Mining Corp., Barrick Goldstrike Mines Inc., Anglogold/Jerritt Canyon Corp., and Placer Dome America were honored for their work in reducing air pollution.
