Letter: The question is: Do we really need a tax?
Tuesday, April 22, 2003 | 8:56 a.m.
In the Sun's Sunday editorial, "Guinn's tax plan down, but not out," it stated, "So far the alternatives bandied about by state legislators have focused on expanding the sales tax. But all that would do is shift more of the tax burden to individuals, another shaft for consumers."
It is obvious that you have no concept of business or economics. Regardless what the "soak the business" community thinks, all taxes are ultimately paid for by the consumer. Businesses will simply pass any tax on to the consumer.
The bigger question should be, do we really need the tax? Anyone can write a budget, but that does not mean what is in the budget is needed. But assuming it is, it is simply a question of how our government takes our money. Remember, there is no such thing as government money, only taxpayer money.
Tagging businesses with a gross receipts tax will take away an incentive for new business to come to Nevada. And when that happens, we consumers will get the tax shaft in some other way.
