Firm to open concept store in Las Vegas

Sears, Roebuck & Co. plans to open a concept store in suburban western Las Vegas to lure shoppers from discount rivals such as Target and Kmart, a newspaper reported Friday.
The Sears "Grand" store will be built at West Flamingo Road, west of Interstate 215 in the Grand Canyon Parkway shopping center being developed by Triple Five Development Corp.
Officials with Triple Five Development and Chicago-based Sears have not announced a timeline for development. Construction has not begun on the site.
The Las Vegas Sears Grand store is scheduled to be the third of five concept stores built nationwide, Linda B. Blakley, a Sears spokesman, told In Business Las Vegas, a sister newspaper of the Las Vegas Sun.
Like Target and Kmart, Sears Grand will have "convenience" items such as plants, soda, greeting cards and health and beauty products. The stores will be built away from malls and closer to residential populations.
"We're looking at having there be more purchase occasions when you would think of coming to a Sears store," Blakley said.
