KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. -- Universal Health Services Inc. expects to complete several hospital acquisitions this year, but none in the next few months.
Chief Executive Alan Miller said there are several opportunities for acquisitions. But Universal Health won't complete any transactions in the second quarter of 2003, he said.
Universal owns three Las Vegas hospitals and is building a fourth. It does business in Southern Nevada as the Valley Health System.
Universal Health said Wednesday its first-quarter net income improved as it treated more patients and collected higher fees for its services.
Net income rose to $52.8 million, or 84 cents a share, from $45.7 million, or 71 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue climbed 11 percent to $894.8 million.
