A North Las Vegas teen won the Nevada Youth of the Year competition sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.
Ambrosia Hafen-Hayes, 16, won the award based on an essay, school transcripts and a speech about her club experiences and personal growth, according to a statement from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.
Hafen-Hayes is a junior at Clark High School, and is in the Academy for Mathematics, Science and Applied Technology magnet program. She has a 3.25 grade point average and volunteers at the North Las Vegas Boys & Girls Club and the Christian Outreach of Southern Nevada.
Hafen-Hayes will now go on to compete in the Pacific Region Youth of the Year contest to be held in Southern California in mid-June.
