Hospital to host transplant celebration
In honor of National Donate Life Month, a celebration for all of the kidney recipients who received a life-saving transplant at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the hospital's auditorium, 3186 S. Maryland Parkway.
Its purpose is to raise public awareness of the critical need for organ, tissue, marrow, and blood donation.

Public invited to walk in March of Dimes
Area residents are invited to participate in the annual March of Dimes WalkAmerica fund-raiser, to be held locally 9 a.m. Saturday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas McDermott Center, 4504 S. Maryland Parkway.
Registration for the walk begins at 7:30 a.m.
Money raised at the event will help pay for research on the causes of premature births and genetic birth defects in newborn babies. Also, the foundation uses funds to help pregnant women recognize the signs of preterm labor and assists healthcare professionals find better ways to identify women who may be at risk for pre-term labor.

Opening of new park to be celebrated
The opening of a new neighborhood park in northwest Las Vegas will be celebrated with games and activities Saturday.
The 1-acre park is next to Fire Station 43 at the corner of Smoke Ranch Road and Torrey Pines Drive. The park includes playground and a small plaza with a display commemorating Las Vegas fire chiefs.
Carnival games, face painting, and food will be part of the celebration planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park.
Las Vegas Councilman Michael Mack's office is taking suggestions for possible names for the park.

Offspring-to-work program scheduled
The Las Vegas Executive Express Network of the American Business Women's Association is hosting a "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the Dallas Room at Texas Station.
The national event broadens the lines of communication between children and adults regarding family and work, and it gives children an opportunity to observe real work experiences for their own goal setting purposes.
Admission is $25; $17 for children; $35 at the door.

South Bowl of Fire Hike
is a moderate five-mile hike that begins at 8 a.m. Sunday at mile marker 16 on the Northshore Road of Lake Mead, which leads to the Bowl of Fire. Call 293-8990.
Las Vegas High School
will present its show choir, Spectrum, and the annual musical production, "On with the Show: A Tribute to Broadway and Movie Music," at 7 p.m. Thursday through April 26 in the Frank Brusa Theater on the school's campus, 6500 E. St. Jude's Ranch for Children,
100 St. Judes St. in Boulder City, presents "A Night of Nostalgia" at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, to celebrate the new Santa Francesca Independent Living Center.
