Bass averaging 2 lbs. near Overton Beach

NDOW creel census clerks reported that boaters fishing the Overton Beach area of Lake Mead, left of the boat ramp, continued to have success landing a few largemouth bass that averaged 2 pounds. Top-water lures continue to be the bait of choice.

A few stripers that measured 18 inches were also taken with anchovies.

Anglers fishing from the shore at Echo Bay continued to be successful landing stripers that measured 18-20 inches. The fish were taken with anchovies left of the boat ramp.

A few largemouth bass were also taken in this area using top-water lures. The bass averaged two pounds.

A few rainbow trout that averaged 12 inches were taken with marshmallows.

Anglers were also successful landing striped bass with anchovies. The largest weighed in at 12 1/2 pounds.

Willow Beach anglers reported a decline in success from the previous week. Anglers did catch five stripers that weighed in excess of 20 pounds. The largest striper weighed 32 pounds and was taken with an Osprey Lure.

Anglers fishing Comins Lake reported good success for rainbow trout that averaged better than two pounds. Dragonfly nymphs, commonly called "Hellgrammites," were landing the fish.

The nymphs can be found under rocks in shallow water. Anglers reported no success using PowerBait or worms.

A weather front that came through and brought snow and will seriously limit anglers road access to Illipah reservoir.

He also said that the reservoir was at full capacity and that boat rentals were available.
