The Metro Police officer who shot at a fleeing suspect April 9 in the area of East Oakey Boulevard and Boulder Highway has been identified as William Umana. He has been with the department since August 2001, Officer Jose Montoya said.
Police said Umana, 28, responded to the area to break up a fight, and three suspects fled. One of the suspects aimed what the officer believed to be a gun, and Umana fired a shot at him but did not hit him. The suspect was not armed, police said.
