Henderson makes primary results official; no changes

Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | 10:13 a.m.

The official results of the April 8 primary elections in Henderson and Boulder City were recorded Tuesday, confirming the unofficial results announced the evening of the election.

The Henderson elections for two council seats and a municipal judge position ended in the primary. The judge's race had only two candidates, while in the council elections, both victors received more than 50 percent of the vote, which meant they were automatically declared the winners.

Meanwhile, the contests for two council seats and the mayor's office in Boulder City will move on to the June 3 general election. Early voting is from May 17 to May 30.

In Henderson, incumbent Henderson council members Any Hafen and Amanda Cyphers were re-elected.

Hafen received 8,364 votes, almost 60.9 percent, in his Ward 2 council race. Rocco Tucker ran second with 3,898 votes, almost 28.4 percent; Briana Ousley-Mitchell received 865 votes, 6.3 percent; and Jesse Harris received 613 votes, almost 4.5 percent.

Cyphers received 8,134 votes, about 59.9 percent, in the race for the Ward 1 council seat. Ann Barron received 3,998 votes, almost 29.5 percent, and Ed Molitoris received 1,442 votes, which was about 10.6 percent.

Douglas Hedger was elected judge for Henderson Municipal Court Dept. 2 with 7,434 votes, or 55.2 percent of the vote. He beat incumbent Judge John Provost who received 6,035 votes, which was about 44.8 percent.

In Boulder City, the race for mayor will be between incumbent Bob Ferraro and Bill Smith, a former city councilman.

Smith came in first in the primary with 1,784 votes, or 38.9 percent of the vote.

Ferraro ran second with 1,650 votes, or 36 percent of the vote.

Councilman Mike Pacini received 1,148 votes, 25 percent of the vote, in the mayoral primary. However, only the top two vote-getters move on to the general election.

The top four candidates from the council primary move on to the general election ballot. The race for two Boulder City council seats will be between Karla Burton, Roger Tobler, Kevin Polk and incumbent Bryan Nix.

In the council primary, Burton led with 1,861 votes, 21.9 percent; Tobler received 1,822 votes, almost 21.5 percent; Nix ran third with 1,752 votes, 20.6 percent; and Polk received 1,289 votes, which was almost 15.2 percent of the vote.

Not moving on to the general election were council candidates Dick Bravo, who received 1,275 votes, about 15 percent of the vote; Susan Higley with 383 votes, 4.5 percent; and Anthony Pakula who received 109 votes, or just under 1.3 percent.

Overall, about 49 percent of Boulder City's registered voters cast ballots in the primary election.
