Rec center to host Easter Carnival
Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane, North Las Vegas, will hold an Easter carnival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for children ages 3-10.
The free event will feature crafts, carnival games, egg decorating, an Easter egg hunt, food and entertainment.

Diabetes event planned at Paris
The Nevada Diabetes Association for Children and Adults will conduct a fund-raiser at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Paris Las Vegas.
The event will feature a jazz performance by the Tommy Thompson Project, dinner and a silent auction.

Ask-the-Experts workshop set
The Nevada Microenterprise Initiative is hosting an Ask-the-Experts workshop from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Henderson Business Resource Center, 112 Water St., Suite 100, Henderson.
The workshop is for anyone starting a new business or is currently in business.
Scheduled topics include: Tax Responsibilities for Small Businesses, Business Licensing, Business Insurance, Worker's Compensation, Employee vs. Independent Contractors Issues, OSHA Requirements and Regulations, Human Resource Elements, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Certification, Historically Underdeveloped Business Zones, Bookkeeping and Legal Business Entities.
Admission is $15.

Get charged up at Battery Roundup
As part of the 2003 EcoJam Earth Day celebration, the second annual AAA Auto Club Great Battery Roundup will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Park, Sunset Road and Eastern Avenue, to encourage residents to bring in old batteries that are a hazard to the environment.
Clark County Wetlands Parks will receive a $2 donation for every battery turned in. Admission is free.
If you want to donate a battery and can't make it to EcoJam, you can drop off your battery at the these locations: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, American Auto Care, 10177 W. Charleston Blvd., Suite P, 259-2600; and 7 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday, Auto Guardian, 3550 E. Post Road, 547-2369.
Volunteers sought for Trash Bash
Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for Trash Bash Day at Red Rock Canyon.
The first 200 participants will receive a complimentary Friends of Red Rock Canyon T-shirt.

Need help starting your own business
The Las Vegas Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will present another How to Really Start Your Own Business workshop at 9 a.m. Saturday at 400 S. Fourth St., Suite 250A
SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, the Business Plan an a Check List for Licensing, Permits and other requirements.
The $45 cost includes a 292 page reference manual and a workbook. Call 388-6104.
March of Dimes walk scheduled
The public is invited to participate in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica program at 9 a.m. Saturday at University of Nevada, Las Vegas' McDermott Center, to raise funds to help research the cause of premature and genetic birth defects.

Members of the Southern Nevada
law enforcement agencies will take on firefighters in a charity hockey game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Santa Fe Station. Tickets are $5; $7 the day of the game. Donate a can of food and get $1 off the ticket price. Call 229-5911.
Nevada students eye Science Camp
Two high school seniors from Las Vegas and Reno were selected to represent Nevada at the 2003 National Youth Science Camp to be held in West Virginia starting June 26.
Joshua Shiode of Clark High School and Daniel McComas of Galena High in Reno will receive full scholarships to exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals at the four-week camp.
