Beavers hold off 51s in Ore.

Wednesday, April 16, 2003 | 9:40 a.m.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Three Portland pitchers limited the 51s to six hits and the Beavers held off a late rally for a 3-2 victory Tuesday night in a Pacific Coast League game.

The 51s were being shut out through six innings, but they plated a run in the seventh against starting and winning pitcher Carlton Loewer (3-0) and an unearned run in the ninth against reliever Cliff Bartosh, who earned his first save.

The 51s' Bubba Crosby, who was named PCL hitter of the week earlier Tuesday, was retired in a pinch-hit effort.
