Organ transplant meeting scheduled
The Champions of Organ Sharing, a group of local organ recipients, donor family members, those on a waiting list and transplant professionals will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunrise Hospital auditorium.
Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson has declared April National Donate Life Month to increase public awareness of the need for organ, tissue, marrow and blood donation.
Dini, Melton to get special honor
Former Assemblyman Joe Dini of Yerington and the late newspaper columnist Rollan Melton of Reno will be inducted into the State Archives Heritage Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
Dini, who retired last year, will be honored for pushing through legislation to increase funding and programs for libraries. Melton, who died last year, will be honored for supporting a paper conservation lab that preserves Nevada's documents.
Social Security workshop planned
Recipients of Supplemental Security Income and/or Social Security Disability Income are invited to attend the Benefits Planning workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Community College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.
